Jodi McShan grew up in a family-owned business, where she did everything from floral design and delivery to accounting and management. At McShan Florist, she learned the benefits of hard work and personal relationships from both her grandfather Lee A. McShan, Jr. and her father Bruce McShan.
She temporarily left Texas to attend Vanderbilt University where she studied Psychology and Spanish. Ms. McShan also coached for the equestrian team, was elected captain of the women's rugby team, and planned campus and community-wide concerts and events. In 2004, she served as an intern in the United States White House under President George W. Bush. In D.C., Ms. McShan worked in Cabinet Affairs, maintaining Cabinet members' schedules, and in Presidential Correspondent where she handled mail sent to the President.
After gaining her Bachelor of Science from Vanderbilt University, Ms. McShan moved to San Diego, California to attend law school at the University of San Diego School of Law. While in law school, she volunteered at the Tax Clinic, Homeless Clinic, Children's Clinic, and the General Legal Clinic. She handled felony arraignments for the San Diego Public Defender's Office and mediated for the San Diego Small Claims Courts. In the spring of 2009, Ms. McShan was named a National Finalist in the American Bar Association Negotiations Tournament, finishing in the top 20. She graduated in May 2009, returned to Texas, and passed the Texas Bar that same year.
After taking the Texas Bar, Ms. McShan interned at the Dallas County District Attorney's Office in the felony Family Violence Division and Sexual Assault Division. She gained a great deal of experience working with individuals harmed by loved ones and learned how to help those individuals working through tough times. Ms. McShan moved to Tyler, Texas for two years to work at Findlay Craft, where she worked on a number of cases for Fortune 50 companies on patent case and FTC compliance investigations. In 2011, she moved back to Dallas and began work for Withers & Withers, P.C. There Ms. McShan learned more about the practice of family law and was able to use her background to assist clients during these difficult times. In 2014, she formed her own firm, the Law Office of Jodi McShan, PLLC.
She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, Associate Editor for the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Affiliate publication, and is a member of the Dallas Bar Association, College of the State Bar of Texas, Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Young Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association.
Ms. McShan is also active in community groups where she serves as the chair for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Junior Board, board member for the North Texas GLBT Chamber of Commerce, and sits on the leadership council in the Junior League of Dallas in addition to working with Dallas Femfessionals, Dallas Independent School District Mentoring Program, Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Lakewood Women in Business and Park Cities Women in Business.
